You, my friend, are not alone. Your mind was wired so beautifully to handle everything that we as women need to accomplish on any given day.
If you are feeling a need to understand why you feel that way. Then keep reading.
This post is all about helping you understand why some women want to be a stay at home wife, have a business, and do all the things.
Now don’t roll your eyes or click out of this post because you have probably heard it all before. People talk about Proverbs 31 ALL THE TIME and to be quite honest it makes my skin crawl hearing all the messages people have preached.
People use the chapter to describe how a true biblical woman should be in her spirit and temperament. Then they stop there.
I want to walk you through how the ENTIRE CHAPTER in Proverbs 31 talks about how that same gentle and meek woman is also strong, intelligent, business women, an investor, and also a powerful woman but full of grace at the same time.
A Proverbs 31 Woman – Diligent In Your Work
v13 She seeks wool and flax, And willingly works with her hands.
v14 She is like the merchant ships, She brings her food from afar.
v15 She also rises while it is yet night, And provides food for her household, And a portion for her maidservants.
These three verses talk about her willingness to work and how she will go to where ever she needs to in order to get supplies for her household. She rises early to feed her family and her servants.
While she is the manager of her home she is not above work and shows all of those in her home that she cares. It’s the same principle of the book Leaders Eat Last.
As women with homes, families, and possibly running a business or side hustle. Life is not easy. There is hard work to do every day. But when your heart is at peace. That is when the amazing work comes in.
Make Smart Choices
v16 She considers a field and buys it; From her profits she plants a vineyard. <–Investor, she put invested back into the land she just bought to make use of it.
v17 She girds herself with strength, And strengthens her arms.
v18 She perceives that her merchandise is good, And her lamp does not go out by night.
She is smart with her purchases and knows the value of what she is buying. She puts what she buys to good use and doesn’t just let it sit.
Everything she does is with a greater purpose and intention. With the extra money she had, she put the land to use and planted a vineyard. She makes herself strong so she is ready to take on what life brings her.
In verse 18 she is a creative. She makes sure that her products have value and are worth what people will pay for it. If it is a digital product for education or a $4 soap bar it is the absolut best it can be and you are always working to make it better.
A Proverbs 31 Woman Builds Wealth To Help Others
20 She extends her hand to the poor, Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy.
21 She is not afraid of snow for her household, For all her household is clothed with scarlet.
She is not building her riches to have more “stuff” than she needs. She is helping those who need it and creating an impact on others.
All planners should sing with happiness in verse 21. She is not afraid of what winter brings because she is prepared! She looks ahead to what is coming and is not concerned because they are ready. This could be as simple as making sure your animals are ready for winter, your family has what winter cloths they need. And simply planning ahead so your family is
Aman and Aman. I just gave you a verbal rebuttal for the next time someone accuses you of being two type A. 😉 Its in the bible to love planning.
Value Yourself
22 She makes tapestry for herself; Her clothing is fine linen and purple.
This is one that every woman needs to read and understand. She creates beautiful things for her home and for their enjoyment. BUT Her wardrobe is not that of a beggar or those who put themselves last. She presents herself well and does not look like she has had on the same pants for 5 days. (This bragging right of unwashed hair and wearing the same cloths for days is not presenting yourself well.)
She takes care of herself and makes herself feel beautiful. You are worth allowing some budget money to buy something for yourself.
You don’t have to love makeup or curl your hair every day, or be girly’er than you really are. But presenting yourself well is so important to yourself esteem and taking care of God’s creation… YOU!
Read more on the importance of getting ready for the day.
She is a businesswoman
v24 She makes linen garments and sells them, And supplies sashes for the merchants.
Again we see she is a maker, a doer, someone who does what she can to bring an income to her family. Having a business is natural. Its not wanting to be “manly” or stepping into a man’s world.
Over the years we have stepped down from our biblical calling and blamed it on men or think that somehow religion took that from us. Yeah no. The bible initiates that for women. So if you have the desire to have a business of your own start small. and build something you can manage alongside your life.
Cultivate Knowledge And Wisdom
v25 Strength and honor are her clothing; She shall rejoice in time to come.
v26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness.
Do you know those people who are just a sweet spirit to be around? This is why. They are respected, kind, and full of wisdom. People are just drawn to that. These people don’t say random things just to take part in the conversion. They speak when it would be of value to others.
v27She watches over the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness.
She keeps a close eye on the big picture what’s going on in her home. What is going on inside and outside those four walls so she can protect it from anyone who tries to cause harm. She does rest when needed but she doesn’t waste time doing nothing.
Stay True To Your Calling & You Will Be Known
v31 Give her of the fruit of her hands, And let her own works praise her in the gates.
Doing all of this work seems like a lot of work and you are right. It is!
Building a business, and managing a home and family will seem like no one sees what you are doing. But if that is the call of your heart. Trust me when I say others will notice all that you do. You will be rewarded for your work and you will be known. It may not be earthly reward but when you are doing what God has called you to do. Its worth it.
Reading all of those verses and everything that a Proverbs 31 woman does might seem overwhelming and completely impossible I want you to remember a few things. All of those things were done in seasons. She was not making things to sell, buying property, preparing for winter and all those other things at the same time.
One thing at a time.
The next time you are feeling a little bit different or are wanting to quench the desires of your heart. Realize that you were created for more. People may not understand you but if you know that you are doing what God has called you to do. Then you don’t need anyone else to understand.
