Finding the goal planner Powersheets from Cultivate What Matters changed my perspective this year.
I was searching for something to guide me. Something that would help me figure out what I was looking for. I’d search all the notebook in journal websites, looked at every Instagram ad that showed up in stories.
And found nothing…
I wanted someone to help me ask the right questions. Questions that would help me uncover what I truly wanted in life. I was searching for something to help me be more mindful in the coming years. 2019 went by like a blur I feel like every month was just one week and here I am in a new year. That was not going to happen for 2020.

I had tried powersheets in 2016 but I don’t feel like I could use them to their full potential. The powersheets have also taken on a whole new look both inside and out since then.
The most powerful part of the power sheets is the prep work. If you are not sure what this is. There are about 30 pages you work through long before you even get to the goal-setting stages. This is why I call the planner a journal because you do have to take time and be thoughtful.
In the Cultivate What Matters Powersheets it will ask you deep and even hard questions to help you make better choices in life. To help you build the life you truly want not just what seems good right now.
You do not get off easy when it comes to working through your goals using the powersheets.
The first starting work page is your goal ideas for the year.
Here is what the guiding text says on that page.
What do you want to cultivate in the year ahead? What comes to mind when you first think about 2020? What do you hope it will look like? Write some thoughts and ideas hear. No perfect handwriting needed just dig in.
There are ideas at the bottom corner of the page but there is lots of space just to write things out that you want to work on for the coming year.
There are encouragement Pages throughout the entire Journal. This page that I’m going to read a sample of is on the first page of learning about what you value in the things that are important to you.
The page says:
Comparison isn’t just the thief of joy it is the thief of everything.
How do you feel when you compare your life to someone else? Does it make you feel like you’re missing something? Comparing your job, business, looks, smarts, timeline, marriage, kids, finances, spiritual maturity, (or fill in what fits for you) to those of anyone else on this Earth will make you miss something…
… you’re one beautiful life.
That small portion is just an example of what is all throughout this journal. It will guide you through making the right goals for your life and putting your focus on what matters.
There are several pages that guide you through figuring out what is important to you. What you like, what you don’t like, and the things you value.
I thought this was a little bit silly at first but the reason it’s important is it helps you see what you value. As you start to set goals you will have a clearer picture of what matters to you.
You will be able to set goals that you will achieve because they are heart goals, things that matter to you. The reason we don’t achieve the goals we think we want is because they are set by someone else or we saw someone else doing them and we thought they sounded like a good idea. But if they aren’t going to get you the results that you care about then it’s going to be a lot harder to stick to those goals.

Reflecting On The Good & The Bad
Powersheets also encourages you to look back on the previous year seeing what worked and what didn’t work. Not as a way to say you did poorly or not good. But as a way to evaluate and to say okay let’s try something different. All throughout the journal you are also encouraged to create connections can cultivate relationships that matter to you.

What Will Matter When You Are 80?
This is the key point. Coming up over and over again that really struck home with me. What will matter when you’re 80 or 90 or a hundred. The things that we think are important now like high Instagram followers or getting a lot of traffic to a website. Seem important today but when we are looking back on our spent years. Those are not things are going to matter to us.
The things that are going to matter are the sweet little moments of life that maybe we never stopped to enjoy. Taking the time to sit out in the garden and listen to the birds. Lifting our eyes from our devices and enjoying what is right in front of us.
Cultivate What Matters Powersheets Goal Setting
Once you finally got through all of the prep work and actually get to the section of setting goals there is still a bit of work to do.
You have to evaluate the areas of life that you really want to work on. You have up to eight goals that you can set. These are the bigger goals that you want to achieve this year. The 8 goals you write down are given a two-page spread for each goal shown below.
- It asks you why you want to set that goal.
- The positive effect of taking action on that goal.
- What is at stake if you don’t reach the goal.
And then the powersheets journal asked you to think about where you are now and where you’re trying to get at the end of the year. Then you brainstorm the tasks that need to happen to help you get to that end goal. Then on the next page, you’re given a section to put your mini-tasks to make that big goal happen.
Then you’re encouraged to schedule out those mini-tasks and state when you’re going to get those mini-tasks done.
Then you are given a quarter by quarter spread for the full year. You’re encouraged to schedule out your goals because let’s be honest we can’t work on all the things at once so we need to start with one or two at a time.
Then once you get your quarter laid out. There is a monthly planner page shown below
For each month there is a monthly spread with a dated calendar so you can mark the dates when you want to work on your habits and your goals.
The Tending List
Each month you create a tending list it is a list of tasks that you continue to work on each month, and then you have action items for each week, and then action items for each day.
You sort your goals by monthly action items which are things that you make progress on each month that are in pursuit of your big goals or your big picture goals.
Your weekly auction items are things you want to tend to a little bit at a time. So things like working out, drinking bottles of water, or doing your devotions every morning.

These life goal setting powersheets get you to look deep inside and ask yourself what you really want out of life. They will help you find the courage to chase your dreams.
