Looking for affordable fall decor? So I don’t know about you but I struggle with spending a ton of money on seasonal decor that won’t be up very long.

Or something that is going to rot or die after a few months like pumpkins or mums.

But when the colors change and our busy summer days turn to cool crisp nights there is something that comes out at night and bites every woman with the fall cozy bug. Symptoms include cozy sweater fever and a pumpkin spice rash.😂

Ok, maybe that is slightly dramatic but as soon as there is a hint of cool weather we get the fall decor itch.

Making your home feel warm and inviting with affordable fall decor makes surviving the sudden weather change just a little bit easier.

Ok, ready to get into the affordable fall decor tips? Lets do this.

Best Rooms To Put Your Fall Decor

I would LOVE to have my whole house decorated for fall and Christmas. BUT I don’t’ have storage space for that. So you might have to choose which season is more important to you. It doesn’t mean you can’t have decorations for both. You might have to limit yourself on one of the seasons.

For decorations of any season, you should think about the rooms and spaces you want to decorate first. Think about which rooms you spend the most time in and what parts of those rooms you see the most.

I often use my living room as an example because it is an L shape. The center wall I see MAYBE 20% of the time. And when I do I am just passing by. So that is one area I am not going to use up my decor on.

Pro tip: Your mind fills in the blanks to the pieces it does not see. So, the area you don’t see will feel just as festive as the spaces that are full of fall decor. Make sense?

Using Non-Treditional Fall Decor Items

One thing that is my FAVORITE seasonal decor hacks is to use what seems like fall decor but really isn’t. The trick is using colors that go with the season.

Look at this arrangement. It can stay up all year and adds to the fall decor. It doesn’t detract from it. More on that later.

Make The Decor You Have Work WITH The Season

Use the decor you have to your advantage. First things first.

Make sure you go through and pull down any decor that doesn’t fit with the new season of decorations. Leaving tulips or pastel decor up will distract from the fall decorations. Look at this example below.

The tulips in the arrangement make your brain go “hu?” and you don’t get any real fall feel or vibes going on.

But if I take out the flowers it looks far less like a visual battle and feels cohesive and very much in the season.

Its ok to leave up the decor that fits in with the season. As long as it is not competing with the fall decor.

Switch Up Your Decor

When your mind already knows what is wherein a particular room it’s easy to feel like your decor is old and boring. That happens when your brain doesn’t have to process the layout of the room.

You can trick your mind into thinking that you have more fresh decorations then you do by simply switching them up a little bit.

Rather than taking down everything try moving a few things around. Put your table decor in a different place or change up the walls.

Affordable Fall Decor Can Be Found In Nature

Nature is full of home decor gifts that we can use for both fall and winter. It’s all in how you use them. If you don’t have exactly what you are looking for I bet if you ask a few of your neighbors they would be happy to let you collect pinecones or acorns that fell from their tree.

Go for a walk in the woods or around a lake. Now be careful of national parks because taking things out of there is a no-no.

Other Affordable Fall Decor You Might Not Think Of

  • Wole corn from a feed store is about $6 for a 50lb bag! Even if you don’t use it all that is crazy cheap. So why not use what you want and give the rest to a friend?
  • Black sunflower seeds are another cool idea that is also going to bee cheaper at a feed store. Check into the prices for the seed meant to feed to while birds.
  • Straw bales. – You can find a bale for under $6 at a feed store DO NOT pay more than that. I have seen them for close to $14 at a decor shop. That is a rip-off.
  • Don’t overlook the dollar store they have some really nice looking flowers.
