how not to be a board stay at home wife header image

Feeling like a bored stay-at-home wife with nothing to do that has a purpose? Struggling to find something to do? Is a twinge of boredom slithering into your day making you feel guilty, selfish, or causing you to question your worth as a stay at home wife?

As humans, our self-worth goes down the toilet when it feels like there is no purpose in life. We were created to have a vision for life, to have something to work towards.

As a stay at home wife, you don’t have anyone telling you what you have to do. Sure you have things that need to be done like laundry to be washed and dinner to be made. But you can do all of the “have to’s” however you please. Which is a pretty awesome thing BUT that can also be a struggle.

bored stay at home wife intro image

I remember the first Monday after I have finished school I felt lost. The thing that took up most of my time and gave me clear direction was gone. No professors to tell me what I had to do next. No path to follow. My days were free for me to fill.

… and that can be one of the hardest things to do.

If you don’t have a boss to make happy or someone else you have to touch base with. Your days are free for you to fill as well. So rather than looking at your empty calendar as a bad thing. Look at those pages as possibilities for what could be.

House Work Boredom

I am going to be the first to admit my bedside manner sucks. But lets have a quick pitty party. — House works sucks, I don’t want to do it, I wish someone else would do if for me.

Ok feel better? Na me either. (I hope that put a smile on your face)

I know that might have seemed a little extreme but taking care of your house is something everyone has to do. Not just stay at home wives.

Before I give you some ideas on how to make your housework a little more interesting I want you to think about two things first.

How do you FEEL when you think about how bad a task is? It puts a weight on your shoulders, brings your mood down, and even makes your body feel sluggish right? Why self-sabotage yourself and make something you have to do harder on yourself?

It’s like holding on to a bag of chicken feed the whole day just because.

The more you tell yourself something is no fun, awful, and boring. The more you are going to believe it. The opposite is also true. The more you can say this is a blessing. It’s not as boring as it seems. I GET to take care of this house. The better you will feel about the task.

Make House Work You Hate Pretty

Now maybe your house isn’t as pretty as you would like it. I totally get that. We moved into a 1970s prefab home with all wood paneling so it has taken us a lot of years to make it pretty. (I got a compliment from friends that said it should now be in a Magnolia Journal Book so I think we are on the right track!)

But what you can do is make your chore time pretty and enjoyable. Here are some tools to help you do that.

House Cleaning Tools

Empty Clear Glass Spray Bottles

Instead of having a bunch of ugly cleaner bottles use these glass spray bottles to store your house cleaners. Whether you make your own or simply transfer the bottles.

If you are not self-motivated then this not for you. Starting a side hustle which is a small business. Is not for the faint of heart. It takes a lot of time, effort, and even a little bit of tears to make a business work. But if you are willing to put in the work and keep going it is worth it all.

If starting a side hustle sounds like something you are ready for then I want you to think about these three things before you jump in.

  • How much time are you willing to invest each day? (this will help you keep it from being all-consuming)
  • What do you love to talk about? (Don’t go with what sounds like it would make you the most money. That will lead you to burn out quicker than you ever thought possible.)
  • What do you want your life to look like once the business is off the ground? (For example, I don’t want my business to take up too much of my time down the road once my husband and I become parents. Because of that, I’m not going to start something that will take up a lot of my time on a regular basis.)
