We see the success stories of these great people and have a clench in our hearts and wish we could be in their shoes. Jealousy and even self-pity can creep in without us even realizing it. Rather than doing anything about it, we dwell on the fact that we don’t have what they do.
Rather than just wishing things would be different, I am going to show you how to make your dreams a reality. Set your eyes on your target and with lazar-like focus, shoot for your goal and it will become a reality. Does that mean everything will happen quickly or in your timing? Maybe… But also it might not and that is something everyone should be prepared for.
Start With The Big Picture
To make a success of something there is no small amount of planning and preparation that should come first.
What are your dreams? Where do you see yourself next year or even five years from now? Is it staying home with your kids while bringing in a second income for your family? Are you dreaming of being known in your industry? We all have dreams of where we see ourselves in the near or even distant future but how do we get there?
I want you to write down all of the details about the life you dream of living in five years or even ten years. Where will you be, what will your finances look like? Write down every last detail that would make your dreams complete.
Whatever you right down remember these dreams and aspirations might change. We as people grow and change as we travel through life. Don’t hold so tight to these dreams that the end up holding you back.
Revisit them every six months. Ask yourself if these are still the dreams that you have now. If not change them.
Grab your dream makers work sheet. Get messy with it and figure out what your dreams are in life.
Break Your Dreams Down Into Steps
Take that big picture and break it down. What needs to be done to make the big picture happen. Is it paying off debt or saving for a new home? Maybe you are growing your business to enable a spouse to have the job or career they want.
Take a look at where you are now. Is there any aspect that you are currently doing that will help you get to where you want to be?
Here is another aspect that many do not think about. Are you putting energy into something that is not aligning with your dreams? Is it something that may not be moving you in the direction that you want to go in life and in business? This can be a hard question to ask and even harder to answer because it might lead us to let go of something that we don’t want to but that thing is also holding us back from great things.
Break the steps down into tasks.
Yep, we are going to break those steps down even further. Take each step that you wrote down and give each one its own sheet or half a sheet of paper and write down the following things about those steps.
- Things you are already doing that could be used to make this project happen.
- Current tasks that need to be gotten rid of to make your dream life come to reality.
- New tasks that you need to implement.
- Time it will take to complete the project.
- Your deadline to have it completed.
